Buffy, "The Dark Age"

Today I watched Buffy The Vampire Slayer, “The Dark Age” and once again this season I really have not been able to find a good theme from the episode.  I think this episode was trying to cover that people are not always what they appear to be.  Buffy, Xander, and Willow all see Giles as a very put together man who is always working and does not really have much of a social life.  He is always at the library, whether it is during school hours or after looking up information about vampires and other creatures.  In this episode we learn that Giles has a few secrets he has been keeping.  He used Eyghon which switched him in and out of other people’s bodies.  I do not really understand how this worked or who took over Jenny’s body, I think Philip took over her body.  Ethan is also behind this.  He knocks her out and straps her down to a table.  Willow, Xander, and Angel come to rescue Buffy.  Angel attacks Jenny and strangles her.  After a while the demon comes out of her and goes into Angel.  Angel forces the demon out of him, because he has a demon himself, therefore the Eyghon is gone.
This definitely shows that Giles has more of an interesting life than what the group once thought.  Everyone has their “demons” that they cannot get rid of and I think this is what this episode was trying to express.  You cannot change the past or hide it.

  1. I'm with you on finding it hard to find a good theme. The second season isn't as literal as the first and you really have to think harder this episode.
