Blog 29 (My argument is horrible, need help)

For my blog I will be showing you my first paragraph.  I want my argument to be about cliques and the judgmental thoughts of their peers and how it affects adolescents’ self esteem.  The episode of Buffy I watched was about a girl named Marcie who was ignored by her peers like she was invisible, and therefore, became invisible.
The supernatural occurrence of Marcie’s invisibility metaphorically demonstrates the extreme and dire importance of social ranking in high school based on the views of their peers.  Cliques are formed in high school throughout the world.  These cliques can make or break a students’ high school career.  Students’ reputations are in the process of being made before they get to freshman year of high school.  Cliques such as jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, band geeks, and ‘friendly’ girls or boys are all different groups that are made in high school.  With all these people judging each other people are unfairly placed into categories that do not fit who they truly are.  With all these opinions floating around from their peers, an adolescent could have a hard time with their self esteem.  Some students would rather be invisible than seen, because of the harsh ways they are treated.  In the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a student at Sunnydale High becomes completely physically invisible to her peers and faculty.  Although she is no longer visible, no one ever noticed her disappearance, because she was so unknown to her fellow classmates that it was like she never existed.  All she wants is someone to talk to her or a teacher to call on her in class to answer a question.
Feel free to leave many comments and help my argument actually become an argument and help my paper just sound a lot better.

  1. Maybe you could make it more of an argument by directly saying like.. It demonstrates that cliques in high school can make or break a student's high school career. Then talk about instances where people in real life have been affected by their social status, positively or negatively. I like your topic though, and many people will be able to relate to that. Good luck!

  2. ^ Agreed, just lean more towards the affect it has on the high school student as opposed to the importance of social ranking.Start out specific and then you can branch out into the importance of social ranking.
