Blog 13 "Go Fish"

Today I watched Buffy The Vampire Slayer, “Go Fish” and I think the message was a lot more obvious than what the rest of the season has shown.  In this episode the swim team has been really successful and has a big meet coming up.  While celebrating the last win at the beach one of the swim teammates was eaten from the inside out.  After this, the rest of the swim team started to be eaten, too.  While deciding what Xander wanted to get at the vending machine, he hears a scream from Cameron and runs to see what is happening.  Cameron’s skin is laying on the ground and when Xander turns around there is a tall black monster behind him.  They later find out this creature is called a Gill monster.  Xander goes undercover and joins the swim team to try and find out what is causing the swimmers to turn into these monsters.  The nurse discovers that Coach Marin is supplying steroids to the team through the steam in the sauna.  So long story short Buffy saves the day like always in the end and the swimmers have to go through plasma treatments to get better.

The meaning I’m getting from this episode is the effects of using performance enhancers.  They can completely change your personality and how you behave.  This was represented by how the swimmers turned into monsters after taking the steroids.  This episode is pretty much saying when people take steroids they turn into someone they are not.
